Welcome to Version 3 of FIRECalc!

Biggest changes from version 2:

There are a number of interface changes so that people will not need to choose between "basic" and "advanced" FIRECalc. As you will
see, the optional entries are always available, but hidden.

Throughout, I have tried to move away from a focus on withdrawals and towards a focus on spending. Most of this will be found in the descriptions and instructions. I am hoping that the "walk through" approach is easier for new users.

Probably the most obvious visual change will be in how results are displayed. Previously, the primary result of all of your entries and all of the computations was a single number, indicating the"success rate", along with a graph that showed ending balances.

That number is still available, but it is no longer emphasized. Instead, I show yearly balances for every cycle. While a figure of 94.3% might be meaningful to some, seeing that the nest egg remains intact for all conditions for the first 25 years, and that only a few conditions result in a failure of the portfolio at the very end is much more informative.

"Bonus" for supporters

There is also a "bonus" for those who have supported FIRECalc. Supporters have an additional spending strategy, in which you can enter an inflation-adjusted spending amount every year, in addition to entering pensions and Social Security. To make this bonus available to supporters, I added a login at the top right. Anyone who is logged in will see the additional option.

Want to help? As a post-retirement project, FIRECalc has the potential to drain my coffers, and these contributions are welcome. Over the past few years, contributions have covered about 75% of the costs, even though only about 0.05% — one in 2,000 — FIRECalc users makes a contribution.

Watch your email for instructions on how to register.

Past supporter? Since I just now started adding extra features for supporters, past contributors haven't received the information needed to access these features. If you contributed in the past, just fill out the form below and you'll be added to the list. (No need to fill this out if you are making a contribution using the button above.)
